Sigiriya

The ancient rock fortress rising dramatically from the central plains — a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most remarkable archaeological sites in Asia.

Sigiriya, or the Lion Rock, stands 200 metres above the surrounding plains. This 5th-century fortress complex is a marvel of ancient engineering and artistry.

Ascend the rock face past the famous Sigiriya Frescoes and the Mirror Wall to reach the summit, where panoramic views await.

Best Time to Visit

Visit early morning or late afternoon to avoid the midday heat. The site is less crowded during weekdays.
